TIRED OF CALLING & Amina
Tired of Calling
A
mina sat on the edge of her bed, phone in hand, staring at the screen. The call log was full of unanswered calls—some lasting only a few seconds before going to voicemail, others ringing endlessly. She sighed, rubbing her temples. She had been trying to reach Kwame for days. At first, she told herself he was just busy. But as the silence stretched, doubt crept in. Was he ignoring her? Had she done something wrong? She tried again. One ring. Two. Three. Then, the familiar robotic voice:
"The number you have dialed is not available at the moment. Please try again later."A deep frustration settled in her chest. She had poured so much into this relationship—her time, her emotions, her patience. And now, she was the only one making an effort.
She tossed the phone onto the bed and walked to the window. Outside, life continued. People laughed, cars passed, the sun shone as if nothing was wrong. But inside, she was tired. Tired of waiting. Tired of hoping. Tired of calling.
With a deep breath, Amina made a decision. She picked up her phone one last time, deleted Kwame’s number, and turned it off. If he wanted to talk, he would have to be the one to call.
For the first time in weeks, she felt free.
